today the newest wired arrived. as always, when scanning it for worthwhile stuff to read, my eyes get caught on the “fetish” page. nope, it’s not your normal fetish like latex and leather and stuff like that, but shining and gleaming gadgets and gizmos.
this time, the wired staff portrayed the toyota volta, a hybrid concept car. the volta is the bigger and much much spiffier brother of the toyota prius, which is a really big hit in the us.
i presume that hybrid cars are the only way electric cars are ever gonna be popular. (heck, even gearbits loves it :-)
a hybrid car is – for all those that do not know – a car that has both a conventional engine and an electrical engine. both share the work, the electrical engine all the work where a conventional one is not good, e.g. accelerating and small burst of power, and the conventional engine comes to help when maximal power is needed, like on auto-routes. thus, such cars manage to be really fuel-efficient and environmentally safe (at least many of times safer than a normal car) while leaving the man or woman behind the steering wheel with the experience of a real car, so no charging of the battery or searching for that hydrogen filling stations.

and hey, who could argue with a sports car (0-100 km/h in 4 seconds) that uses only 1 liter of fuel on 100km? (and is named after a famous physicist :-)

oh, and by the way, i’m not really a car-fan, this is just as geeky as it can get…

in case anyone of you didn’t go to the kraftwerk-concert^* last wednesday or thursday in the reithalle or didn’t see the pictures of it in the blog-o-hood, then here are the ones i made:

after submitting a comment spam to the MT-Blacklist, i stopped by at jayallens blog, and found an interesting link.
bopuc proposes a way to view all the comments on your blog as a rss feed, spruced up with all the relevant links to despam and edit the comment and info of the commenter.
here are the directions:
1. go to your MT-HQ and make a new template.
call it something you remember and insert a filename for it (e.g. something.xml)
2. paste the code below into the text field.

SubEthaEdit made the jump to version 2.0. As fsck-log notes, even if you don’t need it, it has to be on every mac, one of the most amazing pieces of software, and extremely fast and helpful for writing down stuff (even simultaneously together and alike).
oh, and after looking at the screenshots, i’ll even use SubEthaEdit to code that occasional latex-file i write…

last weekend i ran the grand prix of bern. i’m not really a big runner, nonetheless i managed to run the ten most beautiful miles on earth in a time of 1h, 9min and 27 seconds. not too bad for that my training consisted of going for a run three times prior to the race :-)

yesterday, michel and äbu spent the whole day designing and putting the page online, and i spent a part of the morning with äbu to design and implement the registration-database. everything is live now, so if you want to register yourself on a messenger-event, then you can do it now, i’ll flush the MYSQL-db before the site goes online for real.

if you find a bug or something we need to correct, send me a note, please! (you don’t need to write that the press-release talks about a different schedule, than the page itself, we’re onto that :-)

tomorrow i’ll be in lucerne at the fumetto. i cannot wait to see katz und goldt, their strips are hilarious! the weather won’t be nice tomorrow which is a good thing, because i’m not gonna get distracted by the beautiful view over the lake of lucerne and be able to drown me in reading comics all day long.

since sometimes the point of a ballot can be hard to get (especially if the title is misleading) then some background information can be really helpful to help you find your decision
the people behind votez.ch provide you with little blurbs of information for the upcoming elections or ballots and explain you the pro’s and con’s of every tabling and even tell you who says to vote yes or no (e.g. if you always vote with the SP, they tell you what the SP advises to vote).
the good thing behind votez.ch is, that the people which are behind it do not share one political direction. they actually think that politics sucks a wee bit, but also know that it’s important (especially as younger people) to cast its vote in elections.
so, if you think you might need a little boost to actually fill out that slip of paper, then you definitely should subscribe to their newsletter and you’ll get an email tailored about two weeks before you actually have to send the ballot in.

this morning i went to thömu to see if he has any good bikes to offer (he has). i knew that my mom went to röschu around noon to buy a bike for herself today, so i tried to be there as fast as possible (because i wanted to help her a bit and was already late).
the calculated route from oberried to röschus shop (according to map24.ch) is 11.39 km and takes 19 minutes. with my bike i drove the 9.34 km in 13 minutes and 50 seconds, resulting in an average speed of 40.5 km per hour. not too bad, aight?
now the question is, do i really need a bike that is faster than the one i already own? answer: yes, because it’s even more fun to drive fast with a racing bike than with a street-capable mountain bike.

oh, and in the end it turns out that i’m gonna decide between the bmc streetfire ssx (from our shop) or the specialized allez comp or the thömus slicker team pro. (guesss which one is the cheapest for me…) it’s a really hard decision. the price difference between all three bikes is less than 5% (i’m not gonna tell how cheap (compared to the real price) i get them) so it’s more of a “which dealer do i like most”-question…).
and in the end i also get 1k swiss franks from the insurance of the girl that trashed my bike. it’s not as much as i hoped, but at least the new bike is not gonna be as painful on my bank-account.

today i got a mail from poland.
just take a look at these pictures, and drool over them. i cannot wait until i hold my frame (the black one) in my hands.

i’ve been looking forward to getting that mail since november, so i’m a happy puppy now :-)
now i can start looking for the right parts to build my custom made bike-dream….

i could slap my head!
i’ve been trying to write some files to my flash-stick for about three hours now. the thing was, that the permissions were not set right, so i thought this is some unixy hiccup, no big deal.

i tried to verify the disk itself and tried to repair the disk permissions using the disk utility. nothing.
i relaunched the finder. nothing.
i tried to reformat the stick using the terminal. nothing.
i even tried to rm some files on it using su. nothing (this was l33t-sp34k).
i looked up osxhints how to possibly resolve that issue. nothing
hell, i even rebooted my ibook, a thing only for severe problems. nothing.
and just about now i found out that the little dip-switch on the stick was set on write-protect.
again. i. could. slap. my. head!
