dies ist die karte von meinem kurier-nami am letzten mittwoch, geladen mit dem google-maps-plugin für wordpress.
danke chm für’s finden und danke patrick für’s programmieren!
am montag abend haben wir unter anderem auch über gps-logger gesprochen. this hat das dann sehr kurz darauf schön umgesetzt, und jetzt will ich das auch probieren! (eigentlich wollt’ ich schon zu kurierzeiten immer mal einen tag mit gps rumvelölen, aber eben…).
brauchen tut’s dazu ein gerät, welches das gps-signal aufzeichnet und speichert, gpsbabel und einen mac. mac habe ich, gpsbabel ist frei verfügbar, jetzt müsst also noch so ein gps-logger her.
nach längerem rumsurfen habe ich rausgefunden, dass das Wintec WBT-200 zusammen mit gpsbabel genau meinen wünschen (lange batterielaufzeit und klein) entspricht.
weiter habe ich herausgefunden, dass buygpsnow dieses kästchen für 60$ verkauft. da das verschicken in die schweiz immerhin 27$ kostet, werfe ich hier die frage in die runde, ob sich jemand am kauf anschliessen will, ich würd dann eine sammelbestellung aufgeben und wir könnten uns die versandkosten aufteilen.
ich werde einige zeit (ca. 1 woche) warten, bevor ich für mich sowieso so ein gerät bestelle, bei interesse an sammelbestellung reicht ein formloser kommentar im kommentarfeld unten oder eine sonstige nachricht an mich, den rest klären wir dann per email, ok?

some people still can get their mind around quicksilver [1].
funnily enough i’ve been using this magnificent piece of code since pretty much exactly three years. it’s really hard to explain to someone who just scratched the surface of it, it’s a launcher, hotkey-listener, file-mangler, email-preparer, copy-paste-helper, history-catcher, address-book-search-engine and much, much more. A1c0r, the developer of quicksilver recently made a talk about the inner workings of his software at google [2].
so if you still need a push, then watch the video below in it’s full length, it’s very worth it.

[1]: yes matthias, i’m looking towards you :-) (put more than one nerd who uses quicksilver around a table, pretty soon someone talks about how ‘that’ could be done much easier with quicksilver. this monday we’ve talked about how cool something like this would be on a mobile phone. i would not get an iphone for it, that’s for sure!)

the ted-talks are always a good source for inspiration and sometimes are just pure eyecandy and droolworthy innovations.
i’ve added them to my democracy-player but seldom take my time to watch all of them. the demo of photosynth and seadragon by Blaise Aguera y Arcas from microsoft research is amazing. now this should be combined with jeff hans multi-touch interface, and i’ll never leave my desk again…
sometimes even microsoft manages to do impressive stuff!

microsoft provides a demo, so you can play with photosynth. unfortunately, the demo only on windos, so i might need to reboot to boot camp or see if [kju:] is capable of doing it…

das tagi magazin hat neuerdings einen überarbeiteten webauftritt. das ganze:
ist als Wiki, das heisst als Kollaborationsplattform angelegt.
dies soll helfen, bessere beiträge zu publizieren, indem der onlineauftritt eine schnittstelle zwischen lesenden und schreibenden sein soll. momentan noch eine kleine baustelle, aber auf alle fälle ein sehr spannender ansatz. mich nimmts wunder, ob da einfach das lektorat an das wiki-publikum ausgelagert werden soll oder ob wirklich eine diskussionsplattform entsteht. oder entseht da ein neues citizen journalism-heft und die ganze redaktion widmet sich nur noch der pflege der wiki-einträge? auf jeden fall eine spannende angelegenheit, die es zu beobachten gilt, auch wenn noch wenig leser gleichzeitig online sind (man beachte beiliegendes bild :-)
was freude macht: schon heute stehen die artikel online zur verfügung, welche ich erst am samstag im briefkasten haben werde. und endlich hat sich das magazin ein brauchbares archiv gegönnt.

ach und übrigens: michèle roten hat zwar eine flotte schreibe, ist aber im interview nur knapp zu ertragen, egal was mensch in sie hineininterpretieren möchte..

update: christian hat den lauf erfolgreich beendet, gratuliere! und ich bin das ding eindeutig zu schnell angegangen, wenn mensch meine zwischenzeiten anguckt: nach 5 kilometer noch unter 4min/km und ab dann schon ziemlich drüber. für nächstes jahr brauche ich glaubich auch so ein lauf-unterstützendes gadget…

i has got me a new mobile phone. it is supposed to be able to do video calls via UMTS. the person in the sunrise-shop that sold me the phone told me that it is possible to make videocalls between all the swiss providers, but contrary to that it doesn’t work. i know three people with an UMTS-video-enabled mobile phone, and none of them is provided by sunrise.
any of my readers want to ring me up, so i can try a video call? my number can be found on tel.search.ch. just search for my surname (haberthür) and the profession “rockstar” (really!) and give me a ring, so we can try seeing each other!

there has been a whoopsie with some of their download-servers, so you might want to make shure, you’re upgrading to the newest version (2.1.2, as we speak). as always, it’s trouble-free. just upload everything to your server and visit yourserver/wp-admin/upgrade.php and you’re set.
is any of my readers interested to try out joost? it’s the thing that was formerly called the venice project and is a bit the same as zattoo, but not enterly [1]. read more about joost in the last wired here.

i’ve installed wordpress 4 months ago and have to say that i’m really happy with it. [1]
]wordpress has a big bunch of useful plugins and seems to run with much less resources on the server than my old cms, movable type. and the best thing is that wordpress has a really great comment spam filter built in, akismet. today, akismet caught it’s 10000th spammy comment.
to celebrate this, i’m featuring the comment here (as an image, let’s not get too exited and give them google-credits:-)

[1] one minor annoyance is here and will hopefully be corrected soon officially. i’ve updated one php-file and now wordpress and ecto work together like they should and have since ever…
devin reams hat einen netten song über wordpress geschrieben, der wirklich witzig ist. und wenn dann das erste maintenance-release von WP 2.1 rauskommt, sing ich auch wieder mit, im moment musste ich leider wieder downgraden, damits mit ecto klappt, weil wordpress den xlmrpc-standard nicht respektiert….

the same group behind barcamp Remo Uhere, Dominik Tarolli, William Lüthi und Peter Hogenkamp un-organise the upcoming blogcamp on the 24th of march at the ETH in zürich. it’s supposed to be a conference focusing exclusively on blogging, organized by bloggers for bloggers and is built upon the principles of the famous BarCamp (ad-hoc unconference) in the Silicon Valley. barcamp was really nice and interesting, i’ve met a load of geeky people and suppose blogcamp is also gonna be as nice and interesting.
i’ve added it to my calendar, and hope to attend [1], it’s gonna be a good way to meet people from the swiss blogosphere, (e.g. Claudia, who’s been commenting here lately [2]), listen to interesting talks [3] and generally just have a good time.
if you’re interested to come, get yourself signed up at the wiki and if you want to present, just add yourself to the list of the talkers.
oh, and i’ve added it to upcoming.org…

hm, i just wanted to comment on the sweet deal on b.’s blog and found out that i haven’t yet installed the cocomment plugin for firefox on my new mac. so i wanted to do that, but then i couldn’t log into cocomment. no big deal, i’ll just let me send a new password. but then cocomment complains that my username and my email don’t exist in their database anymore. hmm, weird.
and the really weird thing is, that there seems to be absolutely nothing in their database anymore… see for yourself here:
what is happening? or is it only because i’m at a free hotspot?
