if you missed the pixmix tonight, then you can see all the images i showed in the /pics section, in the folder pixmix13.
this time i used a new gallery-export-program which is built around simpleviewer/postcardviewer [1].
simple- and postcardviewer are a free flash image viewing application with a visually pleasing result. the thing that makes it supereasy to export galleries or folders is iphoto export from hagus.net.
choose a folder or gallery in iphoto, choose the viewer and press export. voila. and all freeware, free as in eggerbier [2].
wait ’till all the images are loaded and it looks like in the screenshot above, then click on any of the images. the stack of images is randomly ordered, but i kinda like that :-)
let me know if you like that kind of gallery more than the old…

pixmix 13
mittwoch in einer woche werde ich am pixmix 13 in der dampfzentrale eine reihe von 20 unterwasserbildern präsentieren. momentan bin ich am sichten aller meiner unterwasseraufnahmen. insgesamt sind es mehr als 360 aufnahmen, es sollten also 20 schöne bilder zusammenkommen (siehe screenshot unten). ich war schon an einigen pixmixens, das erste mal, als urs/splint/gosi mitgemacht haben und kann sagen, es ist immer ein lustiger und spannender abend.
kommt auch vorbei!

we‘ve been diving in elba for the past few days.
as always, it was really impressive under water and the days with all the people were a blast.
the image below shows a small plane-wreck we’ve seen under water. it’s a panorama stitched from 6 pictures. all the other pictures i shot will be online soon, i’ll tell you when they are.

ich hab ‘nen neuen job!
seit zwei wochen, weiss ich, dass ich meine drohung wahr machen werde.
nach wunderbaren fast 4 jahren beim velokurier bern werd ich ab ersten september wieder an die uni zurückkehren. und zwar als doktorand am institut für anatomie der uni bern in der gruppe um johannes schittny. ich werde mich mit 3d-visualisierungen und lungenentwicklung auseinandersetzen.
seit meiner diplomarbeit (.pdf, 2.5mb) weiss ich, dass ich mich im gebiet der medizinphysik weiterbeschäftigen will und dort auch meine kräfte einsetzen möchte.
an den retraiten im kurier wurde es schon fast zum running gag, dass ich in der ersten befindlichkeitsrunde gesagt habe: “ich will irgendeinmal wieder in die forschung zurückkehren”. einige male habe ich die chance gehabt, eine doktorandenstelle zu bekommen. ein mal habe ich es so weit geschafft, dass ich die stelle bekommen hätte. nach einigen tagen hin- und herüberlegen bin ich damals aber zum schluss gekommen, dass ich mich noch nicht vom kurier trennen kann, auch weil die phd-stelle zuwenig medizinisch ausgerichtet war.
die entscheidung konnte ich dieses mal ein wenig schneller fällen. nicht weil ich mich beim velokurier nicht mehr wohlfühle, im gegenteil! trotz der teilweise grossen belastung bin ich immernoch begeistert von der arbeitsform und im team fühle ich mich extrem wohl und gut aufgehoben. aber bei den gesprächen mit herr schittny und beim besuch am psi wurde mein sanft schlummernder forschergeist geweckt. ich habe das gefühl, dass ich eine spannende arbeit in angriff nehmen kann und meine bisherigen kenntnisse ausbauen werde. fantastisch ist auch, dass es so aussieht, als dass ich neben der doktorarbeit mein geplantes nachdiplomstudium in medizinphysik werde durchführen können und so noch mehr lernen kann.
ich weiss, dass dies ein grosser schritt wird; gerade am letzten wochenende wars mal wieder sehr cool gemeinsam mit allen kurieren zu festen. neu werde ich in einem viel kleineren team arbeiten und hoffe, auch dort wirds gemeinsam spannend und gut. kann ich überhaupt noch den ganzen tag in einem geschlossenen raum arbeiten? werd ich dick? was wird, wenn ich nicht mehr so laut sprechen kann wie beim disponieren? muss ich auf der rolle tippen? fragen über fragen und doch bin ich überzeugt, es kommt gut, denn in meinem herzen züngelt eben auch ein forscherflämmlein.
manchmal frage ich mich aber trotzdem, kommt es gut, mache ich es richtig? schlussendlich wird dies nur die zeit zeigen; ich hab vertrauen, dass ich am ende weiss, ob es gut war.
auf alle fälle weiss ich, dass ich euch alle vermissen werde, wenns dann soweit ist! (und hoffe, wir sehen uns trotzdem immer mal wieder, sonst erfinde ich dann halt irgendwelche aufträge vom anatomischen institut aus, zB. schweineaugen oder so :-)
und jetzt gehabt euch wohl, ich bin nämlich bis sonntag abend am tauchen in elba!

panoramas from the gurten
as mentioned before, i also shot two panoramas from the watch-tower yesterday. because i’m on holiday preparation, i found some time to stitch them with the excellent hugin [1].
both panoramas below were shot hand-held, without a tripod and without aperture-control (i need that with my next camera…). the original images were resized to 1024*768 pixels to prevent harddisk-bloat, and then stitched.
with the free program make cubic they were assembled into a QTVR. click on the thumbnails below, wait until the movies are loaded (beware: they’re both quite big!) and then click/drag around with your mouse.
here’s the one i shot from the center of the tower:

this image was quite tricky to assemble, mostly because of the distortion of the wooden beams in contrast to the not distorted heaven. maybe i should start carrying a tripod around…

this image was assembled fully automatic using autopano-sift, hugin and makecubic. no intervention from me except clicking some buttons and dragging a file to the dock. nifty, innit?

’cause ninas knee is still hurting like a bitch, we didn’t go to the seilpark today, instead watched the latest episode of lost and went to have a coffe on the gurten.
i shot the image below between some shots for a panorama from the look-out tower. nina looks a bit held tight, but nonetheless i like the picture. as soon as i finish the panoramas i’ll post them too.

a little story from work
as you might know, most of the swiss messenger companies work together when there is stuff to send around switzerland. so if any of our customers wants to send something into another part of switzerland, he calls us, we pick up the parcel at his place, lock it in a special compartment in the train and the partner-company grabs it at the destination train-station and delivers the parcel. the whole product is called swissconnect and is an unbeatable product in terms of speed and reliability.
the whole process organized – mostly – through a special website, which can only be accessed with the correct passwords and stuff. each and every parcel is trackable and can be viewed in detail. this morning nicola told me to go to grab something from the 8.58-train from zurich, to deliver it to somewhere in bern. you can guess that i’ve been a little bit surprised when i grabbed the plastic-bag from the train and saw what was in the transparent (!) bag. thirty of them!!!
