tandem movie is up

well, if you’re interested, one of the tandem movies can be downloaded here.
i have to issue a warning, the file is about 9mb in size and if you got a weak stomach, then you might get ill :-)
further infos: the timeline of the movie is absolutely unedited, we drove down the frickweg with the speed you see on the movie (btw. B. and Hermann, i could not show your house, because i had to concentrate on the sharp turn at the end of the badgasse, sorry) and had exactly those two and something minutes to drive down.
the annoying noise is the wind blowing in the microphone of my cam. remember it’s supposed to take pictures, the movie-ability is just a nifty feature…
and yeah, gimme a break, i know the sound is not edited very thorough, but as i said before, it’s my first try with imovie.

keep it simple

do you remember the movies i made last friday? i’ve been fooling around with ’em in imovie and must say that this app is quite straight-forward (as soon as you figure out how to import the sound from non-standard-mpegs which my camera produces).
i know there are much fancier products which are also free, but with imovie i was able to make a nice little movie with soundtrack, a little transition and stuff like that in a matter of some dozen minutes without even thinking about reading the manual.

but now it’s really late, i got a terrible cold and just want to go to bed, i’ll upload the movie tomorrow or thursday. i think it’s quite funny for a first try in video-editing :-)

good night.

nokia n-gage (todays fun link)

this is why the new nokia n-gage gameconsolemobilephonetacoshell is never gonna be a hit!

update: it might not be obvious, but nokias designers do not read books on industrial design. this means, that the user has to hold the n-gage sideways to make a phone-call with it. how daft is that?

update: see what gizmodo has to say to bad industrial design :-) (actually not really about the n-gage, but about the new nokia 7700 which is sidetalking-enabled, too…)

ego-googling

taking a look at the referers to habi.gna.ch i found that when you search for habi on google, then you get quite relevant hits:

ps: and if you take a close look on the referers, then you see some interesting keywords that list my page really high: “fleisch werbekampagne“, “streetparade 03“, “Grosstierklinik+Bern+Tierspital

ps: and searching for siegfried and roy on search.ch ranks me quite high. b. (CTO @ search.ch), i think you have to tweak your algorithm a bit :-)

tandem-movies

well, i just can’t help posting some more:
the back seat driver made some pictures and even some movies.
i’ll try to reencode them into a more web-friendly format (the longest one is about 60mb, exactly 3 minutes, which is just too big) using imovie and then post them here.
they’re all quite funky to watch, because you feel like being on the bike actually.

todays fun link

well, if you google this, then you get this :-)
i guess, expansys should have a better quality-control…
and yes, i’m an avid fan of ricardo.ch. i guess i bought about half of my digital equipment there. including my ibook, my ipod, my palm (old, but works like a charm), my web-cam (which arrived today, but i wasn’t home, so i can go and pick it up tomorrow), my telly, my telephone(s) and numerous other stuff…

exam

if you wanna see what exam i prepared for the class today, then click on the image below, and you can download a 132kb-pdf.
the first image is the result of this, but had to bee redrawn multiple times, because it was just too difficult the way i wanted it first…

tomorrows plans

tomorrow i give two double lessons:
in the first i’ll make an introduction to electrostatics, with use of the van der graaf-generator, it’s one of the “reallyreally-fun-experiments” in physics….
in the second i have an exam with the class (and i’m more nervous than they are, because it’s my first exam as a teacher, i spent 10 hours (no joke) editing it!)
i’ll post some more tomorrow (or actually today, because it’s sleepytime already!)

more tattoos and stuff like that

if you’re interested how it feels to get a massive tattoo on the back, then Keith’s Koi-blog is for you to read. Funnily enough i found this on boingboing and some days ago i talked to him on IAM :-)

and related to other news, nina is now officially in zurich. we spent a really nice day together, went for a long walk and had one of the feared nemesis-cakes in the restaurant ma marzilibrücke, where she also works.
but this perfect day with her does lead to me having a sunday evening blues, which is not too bad, because i still need to finish the lessons i hold tomorrow morning, so this keep my mind off blue thoughts.

???

if you guess right on what i’m working at the moment, then i pay you a beer next time i see you:

ps; and now i go to the cafe kairo

update: ah, well then! (this should be a link to habi.bild.li, but the upload did not work, i wrote chris about it…) explanation: it had much too much people there and i could just listen to michu slamming, then had a drink with renzo and came home.

panorama

do you remember that I’m on the search for a good panorama stitching software for the mac?
well, it seems like i’ve found the tools for the trade.
the well known panotools from helmut dersch are some excellent freeware-plugins for adobe photoshop. as i do not own a legal copy of this monster-piece of software i was on the lookout for more.
PTMac by Kekus is a front-end to those scripts, which helped me to make this image in something like 3 minutes (after emailing the author(s) of the software because i couldn’t get a panorama out (–> do not optimize on a partial panorama…):

nonetheless the software has a price-tag of 50$ so i’ll still need the 13 days left on my trial period to decide if it’s worth it. but it seem like, because you can generate panoramas of all flavors (spherical, cylindrical, etc.) and export it to all kinds of files (quicktimeVR, .jpg, some bizarre java-viewer formats and so on..)

and now i have to finish my lessons for tomorrow, so i plug my ethernet cable. good night

20 vs. 90 minutes

from next week on:

habi: Bern nina: Bern Zürich

and i already feel lonely.

explanation: nina has to finish her studies (pharmaceutics) in either zürich, basel or geneva and she chose zürich for obvius reasons (the ETH in zürich is very renowned).
i stay here in bern for the moment. so we stop living 20 minutes apart, which makes me kinda sad.
i hope – from deep inside my heart – that this is only a test for our relationship and not a stumbling block! i know that i won’t be that big of a problem, there’s telephones, and normally she’ll come back to bern on the weekends and we’ll shurely manage to see each other during the week from time to time. but still the possibility to see each other spontaneous kinda does not work anymore…
nina, i love you!
