Ja, wir transportieren auch grosse sachen…
picture of the week 32
this weekend ninas brother got married to karin. they planned a big party in their garden, but unfortunately the weather was a bit more like november than august. so they had to last-minute-reschedule the whole wedding to a restaurant. in the end everything turned out really great, and the party ended quite early in the morning. a wedding to remember; congratulations karin and andi!
i didn’t take that many pictures, but if you want to look at them, you can do so here:
and i’d like to mention one of the images, mostly because nina looked really wonderful in her skirt. see for yourself here:

oh, and this shot is also quite nice (although i might be biased :-)
mash sf
and here’s another one of those short blurbs (i’m a bit in a hurry):
if you don’t dare to look at road-rashes, cannot stand snotty music and have not the tiniest bit of love for messengers in your heart, then do NOT go and see the preview clips of the upcoming movie MASHSF.
but if you ride a fixie, are a messenger or something like that (tip to the hat to lausanne), the DO it!
oh, and btw, i had some problems playing the first clip with quicktime, but luckily, its mirrored over at youtube.

wolverine piercing
it’s just a temporary piercing, but looks soo cool. if it weren’t so impracticable for typing, i’d get one tonight [1]!
It’s just temporary. Piercing on Freakboy by Jimi at Diabos Mutantes in Sao Paulo, Brasil.

getting rid of comment spam
just a quick note to all the MT-users under my readers: since i’ve implemented this anti-spam measure a month ago, i’ve gotten TWO single comment spams. i didn’t even bother analyzing them carefully, wether they’ve been submitted by a robot or a human.
i must say it’s quite a relief, going from five comment-spams per minute to two spam-comments per month.
and since i haven’t heard from chris – the server admin – i guess the load on the server must have gone down a bit, too.
so, if you got a problem with comment spam, then install this plugin here, it really helps!

ventimiglia photos [update]
today i finally managed to put the images from ventimiglia online.
go and see them here. if you’d like to have a better look at the panorama of the bridge, you can click on the movie below (it’s a 1.7mb QTVR):
update: reuploaded because of silly “rm /blog/images” instead of “rm /blog/imgaes” error (note to self: never ever ftp into the server at four in the morning anymore!)

ventimiglia video
since i haven’t sifted through all the images i cannot upload all the images from italy, but i can show you a little video i shot over at youtube.
the video was shot in the hanbury gardens.

do not hotlink! [update]
i’ve had a quick look at my referers today.
they are mostly chock-full of referer-spam, so i don’t really look at them too often.
but today, i noticed quite a bit of hits from a page on hattrik.org. because some of my friends are quite fanactic hattrickers i thought someone linked to me and wanted to check back.
so i ended up on the site of the sc hooligen. at first i couldn’t see a link to me, but a quick glance at the sourcecode revealed that the manager of said team hotlinked to an image i shot at the gurtenfestival 2004. i know that as soon as you release your images on the web it’s extremely hard to track abuse of them [1], but hotlinking to a file is definitely a no-go!
so i thought, i’d do a little prank with the site, and replaced the image to something else.
i wonder how long it stays like that.
before on the left and after on the right.
it says in german: the manager of this team is a jerk, ’cause he steals pictures from other servers to pimp his profile.
[1] that’s why pretty much everything i release is under an attribution license (see also here :-) )
update: everything is fine now, keep walking on, no need to stare.
but i hoped that he’d at least write me an email :-) and because i couldn’t find one on the page that hosts the image now i’ll just leave it here…

mixed tape 13
mercedes released yet another mixed tape, this time number 13.
go and get it, while it’s hot, it will only stay until sometimes in september.
if you missed the mixtapes that were released before (it’s always really nice music, and legally free to download), you can get them as a bittorrent via the broadcast-station of the sexy admin.

blocking spam
i just cannot seem to stop it!
my blog is sometimes so majorly hit by spam comments, that chris sent me an email saying that i strain the server too much (technospeak: “ca. load 20”).
even renaming the relevant files did not help, so it had to take more drastic measures. [1]
i’ve installed a plugin for MT3.2 which tries adds a hidden input field and then obfuscates the code through some javascript trickery.
because that works before the spam comments get submitted to the system this should lessen the strain on the server a bit (i hope!).
and since i can leave comments, everything seems to work fine, so i’ll just have to wait if it really works with the server load…
[1] if that’s not gonna help now i need to start doing something with captchas, but i really detest them!

picture of the week 26
yesterday i went down the aare from uttigen to bern. but not like everyone else, equipped with a rubber boat, but with a rubber skin :-)
urs and me snorkeled down the river in about 3 hours.
it was really fun, mostly because everybody else couldn’t believe what we did.
the water was rather cloudy and not very warm (although it was bearable with my 7mm rubber skin). in the image below you can see urs relaxing and almost falling asleep. if you want to see the other pictures of the series, then you can see them in this set on flickr.
