the future of interfaces

jeff han [1] is a researcher at the new york university. he gave a talk at the ted-conference. if you’re a bit interested in the – possible – future of interface design, you have to watch the ~9 minute-long video below. it nearly blew my socks of, when i imagined how i could swipe through my 7000+ images on my hd like that. handling of big chunks of date seems to be really fun with that kind of interface.

and i also found mr. han quite entertaining. he has to talk really fast to get all the ideas and thoughts out quick enough, or his brain is gonna explode (pun intended…)

[1] bummer: while searching for his homepage, i found out, that i’ve already blogged him with with the same project… yeah well, talk about short attention span. but if you want, you can watch some other talks here.

picture of the week 34

as you might have seen in my flickr-stream, i’ve been to the robbie

williams-concert this week. for me it was the first time i’ve been

inside the wankdorf/stade de suisse, so i thought i’d make a

panorama-picture. it shows the arena just before the start of the orson-concert.

it still needs some work, but is not too bad for the moment.

transform your face!

Habi.Normldid you ever wonder how you’re gonna look in some years? or how you would look if born in another part of your world? or look when painted?

then you have to go and check out the free face transformer from the perception laboratory of the university of st. andrews! it’s really quite funny and made me laugh!

you just feed it an image of yourself, something like the image on the top left, and you get the results below (clicketyclick for bigger):

picture of the week 32

this weekend ninas brother got married to karin. they planned a big party in their garden, but unfortunately the weather was a bit more like november than august. so they had to last-minute-reschedule the whole wedding to a restaurant. in the end everything turned out really great, and the party ended quite early in the morning. a wedding to remember; congratulations karin and andi!

i didn’t take that many pictures, but if you want to look at them, you can do so here:

and i’d like to mention one of the images, mostly because nina looked really wonderful in her skirt. see for yourself here:

oh, and this shot is also quite nice (although i might be biased :-)

mash sf

and here’s another one of those short blurbs (i’m a bit in a hurry):

if you don’t dare to look at road-rashes, cannot stand snotty music and have not the tiniest bit of love for messengers in your heart, then do NOT go and see the preview clips of the upcoming movie MASHSF.

but if you ride a fixie, are a messenger or something like that (tip to the hat to lausanne), the DO it!

oh, and btw, i had some problems playing the first clip with quicktime, but luckily, its mirrored over at youtube.

getting rid of comment spam

just a quick note to all the MT-users under my readers: since i’ve implemented this anti-spam measure a month ago, i’ve gotten TWO single comment spams. i didn’t even bother analyzing them carefully, wether they’ve been submitted by a robot or a human.

i must say it’s quite a relief, going from five comment-spams per minute to two spam-comments per month.

and since i haven’t heard from chris – the server admin – i guess the load on the server must have gone down a bit, too.

so, if you got a problem with comment spam, then install this plugin here, it really helps!

ventimiglia photos [update]

today i finally managed to put the images from ventimiglia online.

go and see them here. if you’d like to have a better look at the panorama of the bridge, you can click on the movie below (it’s a 1.7mb QTVR):

Bruecke-1

update: reuploaded because of silly “rm /blog/images” instead of “rm /blog/imgaes” error (note to self: never ever ftp into the server at four in the morning anymore!)

do not hotlink! [update]

i’ve had a quick look at my referers today.

they are mostly chock-full of referer-spam, so i don’t really look at them too often.

but today, i noticed quite a bit of hits from a page on hattrik.org. because some of my friends are quite fanactic hattrickers i thought someone linked to me and wanted to check back.

so i ended up on the site of the sc hooligen. at first i couldn’t see a link to me, but a quick glance at the sourcecode revealed that the manager of said team hotlinked to an image i shot at the gurtenfestival 2004. i know that as soon as you release your images on the web it’s extremely hard to track abuse of them [1], but hotlinking to a file is definitely a no-go!

so i thought, i’d do a little prank with the site, and replaced the image to something else.

i wonder how long it stays like that.

before on the left and after on the right.

Hotlink1 Hotlink2it says in german: the manager of this team is a jerk, ’cause he steals pictures from other servers to pimp his profile.
[1] that’s why pretty much everything i release is under an attribution license (see also here :-) )

update: everything is fine now, keep walking on, no need to stare.

but i hoped that he’d at least write me an email :-) and because i couldn’t find one on the page that hosts the image now i’ll just leave it here…
